We arrived!!!

Well, we're not dead...yet.  Despite flying on the very swanky and high class Etihad airline, complete with countless films and a never ending stream of food, we all shared the same sleepless, vaguely uncomfortable journey. Thankfully a rather difficult crossword kept many of us busy- it remains unfinished. When we finally arrived in the bustling airport in Colombo we were greeted by a cheerful man carrying freshly picked and strongly scented flower garlands. The man, who we soon found to be named Chandra, is to be our driver for the forthcoming month. We were bussed into the town of Negombo where we found our hotel for tonight. Despite a few protests we decided to have a traditional breakfast of curries and noodles at a local cafe and took a wander around the local fish and fruit markets whilst taking a look at the remaining evidence of the dutch occupants who once ruled here. After that we spent some time playing 'Marco Polo' in the pool.

We are now all going to bed, sleepy but excited for tomorrow and our future month. -mhairi g

  1. Delighted to hear you have all arrived safely. Sounds like a great start to your month away. Chandra sounds like fun, unlike the curries and noodles for breakfast! Hope you all manage to catch up on some sleep. Look forward to the next update about your adventures.
